TOTAL CONTROL

All Sonata models are equipped with advanced safety features to help you control the vehicle in the most challenging conditions. Safety in the Sonata begins with a body shell made from advanced high strength steel (AHSS) from our very own mill. Advanced active and passive safety technologies also ensure maximum protection for all vehicle occupants.

The new Sonata's Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system helps you remain in control of your vehicle during critical situations by comparing the driver’s intention with the vehicle’s behaviour, controlling the Anti-lock Braking and Traction Control Systems (TCS) accordingly to take corrective action. With an advanced 6-airbag system, the Sonata’s advanced technology promotes maximum safety and accident prevention.

Blind spot detection
Blind spot detection (BSD)

The Sonata will detect other vehicles located in your blind spots and give you an audible warning to let you know they are there if you indicate to manoeuvre into a new lane. It also detects vehicles that approach at high speed from the rear of the Sonata and gives you warning signals (Limited models only).

Hill start assist
Hill start assist control (HAC)

No more anxieties about the vehicle rolling backwards when your foot is taken off the brake after a stop on a steep hill. This new technology minimises roll back on steep slopes when you take your foot off the brake and onto the accelerator.

Six airbags
Six airbags

For greater peace of mind, there are six airbags on all models: dual front, dual side and dual front-to-rear roof curtain airbags. Front passengers also have active head restraints, which provide better neck support by moving forward instantaneously in the event of a rear-end collision.

5-Star ANCAP safety rating

The Hyundai Sonata has been tested and awarded the highest possible safety ANCAP rating with 5-Stars, assuring uncompromising safety to the driver and passengers.

Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA)

It’s difficult to see vehicles approach from either the rear left or rear right when you’re reversing out of a driveway, so Rear Cross Traffic Alert warns you with an audible alert if a moving object is detected while the Sonata is reversing (Limited models only).

LF SONATA FEATURE RAIN SENSOR 2014 1ST AUS RHD 314X291
Rain-sensing wiper system

One less thing to worry about – whenever rain drops are detected on the windscreen of Elite & Limited models, the rain-sensitive wipers spring into action to make light work of the heaviest downpour. Let it rain, let it hose down – you’re sorted.

Lane Change Assist (LCA)

Changing lanes is an important manoeuvre, so when you use the Sonata’s indicators, Lane Change Assist (LCA) gives a visual and audible alert if a vehicle is approaching quickly from behind. The steering wheel also vibrates to warn you of the potential hazard (Elite & Limited models only).

Windshield wiper de-icer

Just the ticket for those winter mornings when the frost bites. The heating element will kick into action, quickly defrosting the ice and improving your visibility faster. (Elite & Limted models only).

Emergency Stop Signal (ESS)

An innovative new safety feature. Emergency Stop Signal (ESS) activates all rear lights when you hit the brakes heavily during emergency braking. This means you’re more visible on the road, warning the traffic following behind you.

Reversing Camera Standard

One of the most useful features on a new car, reversing cameras are standard on every new Hyundai vehicle in New Zealand. The reversing camera makes it easier to reverse your vehicle in tight parking situations, particularly in innercity parking buildings, narrow driveways and in shopping-mall car parks.
